How much output are you actually losing?

Soiling losses on UK domestic arrays are real but often invisible because they happen gradually. Bird droppings are worse than dust because they block a cell completely, and a fully shaded cell can drag down the whole string. Lichen on the frames and glass edges is stubborn, spreads, and is corrosive to seals.

Most people do not notice the drop until after a clean, when the output improves. If you are under trees, near farmland, or close to a main road, the effect is larger and more frequent cleaning pays for itself.

What we do

Survey from the ground

We check the array for damage, lifted panels and awkward access before starting.

Pure water brush clean

A telescopic pole with a soft brush and deionised water cleans panel by panel, with no detergent residue.

Rinse and inspect

We rinse, check frames and clips, and provide a maintenance record if you need one.

Why we do not walk on your panels

Standing on a panel flexes the glass and can microcrack the cells beneath. The crack does not show. Output drops later and nobody connects it to the clean. Some cleaners still do it because it is faster. We do not.

Why we do not use detergent or pressure

Detergent leaves a film that attracts dirt faster than clean glass and can attack seals and the anti-reflective coating. Pressure washing forces water past panel seals, which is a warranty problem and eventually an electrical one. Deionised water at low pressure does the job without either risk.

How often?

Once a year for most domestic arrays in this area. Twice a year if you are under trees, near farmland, near a main road, or if you have persistent bird activity. We will tell you which at the first visit rather than selling you a schedule you do not need.

Warranty and maintenance records

Many panel and inverter warranties expect the array to be maintained. Keep the record of each clean. We will give you one.

Common questions

Does rain clean solar panels?
No. Rain runs off the smooth glass and leaves a tide line of grime along the bottom edge of each panel, which is exactly where water sits longest. Over time this builds up and blocks light.
Will cleaning void my warranty?
No. Cleaning carried out properly from the ground with pure water will not void your warranty. Neglecting maintenance can, however, cause issues that some warranties may not cover.
How long does a solar panel clean take?
Most domestic arrays take between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on size, access and how dirty the panels are.
Do I need to be home?
Not necessarily. As long as we have safe access to the panels and any gates are unlocked, we can complete the clean without you being there.
Do you clean the frames as well as the glass?
Yes. We clean the glass, frames and clips as part of the service, and we check for any obvious damage or lifted panels while we work.

Frequently asked questions

For most homes in Keynsham, Bristol and Bath we recommend a clean once a year, or twice a year if your panels sit under trees, near farmland or on a shallow pitch where dirt and moss build up faster.

Yes. Dirt, lichen, moss and bird mess block light from reaching the cells. Removing that build-up restores the panels to their proper working condition, and most customers see a noticeable improvement in generation afterwards.

No. We clean from the ground using water-fed poles, and where access needs extra height we use powered access equipment operated by IPAF-qualified staff. We never walk on your panels or tiles.

Pure deionised water only. It lifts dirt without detergents, leaves no chemical residue on the glass and dries spot-free, so there is nothing left behind to attract more dirt.

No. Our method uses soft brushes and pure water at low pressure, which is the approach panel manufacturers recommend. We never use jet washers, scrapers or abrasive chemicals.

It depends on the number of panels, the roof height and access. Call Tom on 0117 279 0045 or send a photo of your array through the form and we will give you a free, no-obligation price.
